What is this part?
Hey group,
I have been taking apart the front of the engine to replace belts and water pump. I ran across this part, which had been disconnected by the PO and the two wires were laying beside it. It is located on the driver's side of the engine and is bolted to the airfilter box attachment plate on the back. I have a 1983 944 NA. Any idea what it is? http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1250274790.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1250274817.jpg |
Is it connected to the AOS oil fill tube at the bottom?

Idle switch/control valve. Cuts in when A/C turned on. The bolt in the top is a nice touch. The valve mounts at the back of the airbox and the bolt holes in its top are for (ta da!) mounting it.

Any reason the PO disconnected it?
Any reason the PO disconnected it? Do you know what its purpose is?

I know the bolt on top is to mount it as I am the one that just "unmounted" it. |

Boosts the idle speed to avoid speed dropping when the AC compressor kicks in. The PO probably disconnected it because he was a dreaded PO, after all. |
