Ok not so new 951 owner is losing his mind again.. Pulled the directions from Clarks Garage to remove the clutch master and am really stuck because there is zero room to get to the bolts on the fire wall, the hose clamp and to disconnect the main line into the master. It appears that some of the items that are in the way could be removed but I'm afraid to really mess something up. Any suggestions from the pro's out there?

I just did mine a couple of months ago on the '87 924S. I do not know if the 951 has more tubing and wires near the brake booster but after you drain the brake MC reservoir below the tube for the clutch MC and unbolt and unclamp anything in your way---it does make getting to the 2 nuts easier with and extension and a universal swivel. The nut came free very easily and I was using a 1/4 inch set and 13mm socket.

just take out the stuff that is in the way and you will be able to get a wrench in there. It's not that bad and they are usually easy to come off. The clip on the clutch pedal is the pain in the job.

Yes sir.. There's more stuff in the way in a 951. So much in fact that once the nuts are removed there's no room to pull the master out. I guess I'll start trying to remove some of the blockers. My wife is PO'd because I keep spending $$ on this project and I'm pissed because it's really nice out and the cars stuck in the garage.

Where are you from? Maybe another local pelicanhead can offer some assistance with the project. If you live in Orlando I'd be glad to help out with anything, but what would be the odds of that?
You will get it with some time, good luck! ![]()

do the other 2 components (slave and high pressure hose) if they have not been changed in the last 5 years - one strong and fresh hydraulic component almost always results in finding the weak remaining one and blowing it

Thanks Flash - I bought both the slave and the master and the hose appears to be new and does not have the factory clamps (They are steel). I live just outside Chicago in La Grange if anyone can assist. ( I will be happy to pay in beer / pizza and or cover any travel time expenses for an extra set of hands / experience)

Same on both my cars, man. Dig it out. Got a wobbly 6" extension?

Yeah, my n/a was cramped. Used a wobbly socket. Only took 2 days to change it out. In the snow.

I was able to get mine changed in 30 minutes. Wobby extension was key. But I've got an early NA, possibly less stuff in the way but it WAS tight. You had to play "tetris" to get it out, but it DID come out.

If you can, check to see that the firewall hasn't cracked where the master cylinder connects. Hopefully it hasn't. Good luck!!
Also, bleeding the clutch is as much as a major payne as Damon Wayans! Have you done it before? You need DOUBLE GOOD LUCK on that one. |

ok - I finally pulled the old master out and inserted the new one but how can you thread the nuts if you can't reach them? This car continues to LOL at me..

If I remember correctly I used a thin magnet tool (that I usually use to fish sockets or screws out of the car that I've dropped

insert the nut into a socket on a universal joint on a 12" extension - if your u-joint is too floppy, try a dab of silicone in the socket to hold the nut in there, and a gob of it in the u-joint to help prevent it from flopping around

I've tried everything to thread the nuts and am waiving the white flag!! Two nuts away from driving the car is killin me.

All you have to do is get one on to hold the cyl in place. Then the other can be done after coffee, or tea, or a movie or something when you stop throwing things.
