Heating/Cooling Issues
I've searched this a few times but can't seem to find a definitive answer. My heat isn't working, and being the first cool night in quite a while I know I need to fix this soon. When I press the defrost I get full heat no problem and the plunger arm on the heater control valve opens and closes appropriately as I adjust the temp knob on the HVAC unit. Also the heater clips are all in place. I thought the heater control valve might be the problem but why would the full defrost work and not the heat??
As for cooling, the system has new pump with fresh fluid and a bottle of water wetter. Yesterday was pretty warm and the temp gauge stayed slightly above the 80 degree mark today was cool and it was frequently hitting the 100 degree mark with the fans kicking on. Not sure if they are related?

As for the heat issue, check or replace the control temperature
sensor on the back of the AC/heater unit. Another thing, the heater door might not open at all, that is why all the heat go to the defrost side. There is a vacuum at the heater control valve. If the vacuum is present, the valve is bad. If no vacuum is present, a vacuum line might be disconnected . In line vacuum fittings is bad. It is important to bleed the cooling system correctly anytime it is open. Only use antifreeze compatible with aluminum engines. |
