New 944 owner with vacuum line ?
Recently purchased a 1985.5 944 with a 1987 engine in it (so I'm told) as a father/son project. Neither of us are mechanics and know absolutely nothing about Porsches, a little about Minis, Jeeps, BMWs and Oldsmobiles.
We intend to use it strictly for stock class autocross. To get started we have read hundreds of posts on this forum and Clarks Garage. There is a terrific amount of information available but we have not been able to find the source for the vacuum line that goes to the (I think it is called the) heater control valve. There was no line connected to it when we got the car. There were also other lines missing or improperly connected according to the vacuum line routing schematics that we have found. The car seemed to run fairley well when we got it with some roughness at idle. We have removed the intake manifold, replaced all of the vacuum lines (except noted above), cleaned or replaced idle control valve, thermo-vacuum valve, fuel filter, installed steel braided brake lines, rebuilt the fuel injectors, replaced the broken odometer gear and changed the oil, oil filter and brake fluid. Only have to replace the air intake box,(I guess that is what you call it) coolant reservoir and fill the radiator and we can hit the road. Can't wait. We are excited. We think it is going to be a fun car to autocross. I will have to learn to drive it since I have only run the FWD Mini. I want to thank all the posters on this forum for helping to get us acquainted with the 944 so far. My son can't wait to put a nice shiny coat of Guards Red on it (it needs it bad). Anyway the adventure has begun. Ben |

The line from the heater control valve connects to a nipple on the firewall. On the passenger side you will see the two coolant hoses for the HCV, on that same spot you will see the two nipples. One is for the HCV and one T's off going to the brake booster and the other end to the vacuum resivoir by the battery.
The N/A is a great auto-x car. I did 4 years worth before I sold the car and started doing track days with my 951. I auto-x'ed the 951 a few times and it sucks compared to the N/A even with more than twice the HP. I do regret selling that car, it was alot of fun in it's own way. |

Thanks for the reply Techno Duck. I looked for the nipples on the firewall but cannot find any. Right now the vacuum line coming from the brake booster goes through a hole into the battery compartment where it T's with one side going to the vacuum canister and the other side Ting again and connecting to two places on the unit that is in the center of the car under the hood and just forward of the windshield. Thanks
Thanks WizPorsche944. We've got a lot to learn. I don't know whether the car will be competitive or not. Locally E Stock is dominated by Miatas and an MR2 with some pretty good drivers. Still, It'll be fun.
