Disconnect ABS Light 89-944S2

1989 944S2. My ABS has been dead for 4 years. I have replaced the relay, and I bought a wheel sensor monitor - and replaced 2 wheel sensors. The ABS warning light is off at startup - but comes on after driving about 100 feet.

After 4 years I am tired of looking at the dashboard ABS warning - plus is masks other warnings.

I doubt that I will ever repair the ABS - and, now, I just want the warning light to go away.

How can I turn off the ABS warning indicator- but keep other warnings ?

Dick

On my old S2, the ABS light would illuminate on a regular basis. Turned out to be just a loose ground connection under the right front wheel well. Hitting a bump would be enough to wiggle the connector just enough to loose its continuity for a split second. that was enough to trigger it, and it would then stay on until the ignition was cycled off and back on again.

Just unplug the T40 connector under the dash on the passenger side just above the DME.

Look on ebay for a slightly used ABS computer. The relay and that was the problem on my S2 (I had a leaky battery box and the computer and the dme are right underneath that on the passenger footwell).

You could also try and get your local Porsche garage to test it using a special Bosche testing unit and that tells you what it is right away. My local Porsche garage tested it for me for free and I bet you if they are not busy they would gladly take a look for you.

Lucky you. I have taken my 1989 944S2 to 2 different Porsche dealers (one was 300 miles form home) - and neither could diagnose the ABS problem. Both dealers told me that the '89 944S2 needed a "special" plug to hook up to the computer - and that they did not have one.

If you have a 1989 944S2 - please tell me who and where your dealer is and I'll make another trip.

I had the identical problem on my 91 S2.....bought a used computer and Pump (from LART951) at a very reasonable price and had my mechanic install them.

Now I have ABS and no light anymore !

Fix it.....

I have a 1989 Guards Red 944 S2 and I went to Hoffman Porsche (Dealership) in Hartford, CT and they tested it for me. You could always try and come up on a weekend that there is racing at Limerock Park so there is something else to do.

Also, keep your eye open on ebay for an ABS test booklet for the 944. I have seen a few on there before...

I believe the testing unit you guys are talking about would be the Bosch "Hammer." I think any decent Porsche shop should have one...

So, I have been to 2 "Indecent" Porsche dealers? - Iowa and Minnesota.

Anyone know a "decent" porsche dealer in Chicago ? That's about 4 hours away for me.

I was thinking I'd heard about a decent shop in the KC area, I have been wrong before though.
