Will a Navigation Receiver fit?

I was thinking about buying a Pioneer Avic series navigation unit, but it looks like they don't make the mounting hardware for it. Has anyone been able to get one to fit in their 944?

it fits in the 968, so it should fit in the later 944 - it's REALLY tight though

also, the units with the flip out face (D1, Z2, etc) smack the shifter, so you need to stick to a D3 or one like that, which has the CD slot in the front face

How do you guys go about mounting it up without looking all tacky?

I have the Alpine double-din navigation system in my wife's '86 944. We just used the storage space below the radio to fit it. It barely clears the shifter when opening the screen but it does and it looks great.

it clears it with the shifter in 1st, 3rd and 5th? i may have to look at the alpine

It will fit just perfectly, I have one in my car and it just clears the dash when open, and I have the brain unit under the passenger side carpet. If you want I will post pictures up soon

I'd like to see some photos, too!

This was the only picture I found but I can take more, looking directly at it. The fit couldn't be any better.

Flash, do you happen to have a photo of a double-DIN unit in a 968?

I have a full screen, touch screen, non-flip in my 944. I had to take the tray out below the radio and it fit in there real nice. Everyone said it would not fit. Well it fits perfect. There was a little metal in the way that had to be ground out, other than that it is tight but looks and works well. The screen tilts out so you can put CDs in it. There is plenty of room to change CDs.

Hey, Icey -- do you have a photo? Which receiver is it?

Thanks!

I just got my Pioneer U310bt installed and it barely fit. Like icey said, there are some metal tabs that need to be shaved off and i bent the metal bracket in there a little to bolt the unit to it. You obviously also need to cut that metal/plastic piece that separates the double din. Right now, i'm trying to figure out a way to make a trim piece that's molded into the center console (with the switches in it). I'll probably use fiberglass or something similar.

anyone know of a solid filler that is easy to sand and shape?
