87 944 wont turn over
I recently rebuilt my engine and got everything back into place. However I have an automatic and used the manual bellhousing and clutch assembly to connect to the torque tube. I mostly charged the battery before install. Now all the lights and accessories work. But I can't get the engine to turn over. I have tried 2 starters I've disconnected the current from the engine, and reconnected it with some wire to complete the ground. When I turn the key it engages and spins up nicely. However when I reconnect it back to the engine and turn the key I get "Click" twice I've gotten a "whir, click" where the flywheel has moved roughly 3-5 inches then stopped. Does anyone have any suggestions? Maybe try a new battery? Anything else I can do to get the engine to turn over?
thanks Jay |

Have you checked the ground straps are connected on the top of the bellhousing, both of them?
Try jumper cables before you get a new battery.

Make sure the battery is fully charged.

i just read in a thread, i think it was on renlist, about the housing being different. the guy has bought a very nice red 944 with an automatic, and wants to change it to a stick to gain what little peppiness can be had from an na 5 spd. . . the parts changes are listed in that thread. if i see it i will link it. i think he also listed the same question on pelican too. it was in the last 2 days.
