Engine starts . . . shuts off. . .(within secs) help
 

Deffinite Fuel Problem i am guessing! if anyone else is sure i am wrong tell me. . . . ..

I can start her up but within one or two seconds, shes done. i checked the timing and the timing belt. . and they are all good. The next thing i did was pulled all the spark plugs. . .(not so good). Smelled really strong gasy-like and after running the car for the short time 2x's or 3x's they were not wet? (and they were black????) sprayed the tips with brake cleaner and put back in.

The last thing i did was pulled the air fillter off and the hoses and while turning her over had my buddy spray some brake cleaner directly into the engine . . . . . . of course she runs. this told me it was either the fuel pump and or fuel filter?

Please any comments or helpful hints you can drop will help alot. . . i need to get to class lol and i want my baby back! ps. also tested the fuel pressure it was around 32 pounds?

Pull electrical connection from first injector and see if it will run.

Also check your vaccum lines are not completly off going from Intake to FPR

Doubt injector problem.

You can lossen the big fuel line nut with a big rag under and crank to see if you're getting fuel pressure. If you have a big wet fuel rag. Change FPR of youf vaccum lines to it are not getting Vaccum.

Sounds like vacuum leak. Check all your vacuum lines and hoses. There is a pesky one which is under the intake manifold and is nearly impossible to see. You have to pull the manifold off to get to it.

On mine there was a large vacuum pipe about the diameter of your pinkie finger which pulled away from the manifold. They are only epoxied in place. I did a more permanent fix whcih I can explain if it is the problem.

To find the leak you can attempt to start the car while a buddy is armed with starting fluid. As the engine initially starts have you buddy spray the starting fluid around the vacuum lines. Pay special attention to the area under the intake manifold. If the engine revs up while he is spraying then you have a vacuum leak in that area.

Let me elaborate.
Last week my wifes 951 was running choppy and rich. After reading about similar problems on the forum I swapped the FPR from my NA 944, her 951 was now running fantastically! I put the old FPR from 951 on my NA 944 and my car would run for seconds and then die, sound familiar?
I did what Clark's garage said to do to test FPR which was "Pull lead from one injector" if continues to run the most likely bad FPR.
My car did indeed continue to run so I got on the phone to Pelican and the next day when my new FPR arrived I installed it and my car has been running like a top!

Doing a simple (Free) test saved me a lot of grief and $$$.
