1986 944 help selling please
I have a 1986 porsche 944 nonturbo that I don't want to sell but cannot unfortunately drive anymore(just recently had back surgery and cannot drive stick shift for a year). I was planning on keeping this car forever and had invested in it as such but I need to buy another car that I can drive (automatic) as soon as possible. I just needed some advice on how to sell for so I don't get swindled or laughed at, thanks again
-smogged and registered -major maintenance (timing belt, fluids, etc) 2007 -regularly maintenanced (oil change and such) -100,000 miles on it -sound system put in with cd mp3 and usb jacks -cracked dash -needs a paint job badly -new brake pads, front 2 rotors, caliper overhaul, master cylinder replacement all done by myself to working condition -all windows, sunroof work -basically aesthetically bad, inside all good any input would be much appreciated thanks |

Well for one thing as you know, the market is way down on these cars. Check out the 944's on ebay and see what you are up against. There are some nice looking cars, paint, etc. out for sale right now. What is your location? I take it your car needs a new paint job. What is the condition of the seats, dash, carpet and tires in?Has the rubber centered clutch been replaced? A lot of factors come into play when trying to sell a car right now. What you put into one of our cars is one thing and trying to get that back out is another. Sorry to hear you just had back surgery. I sure hope yours turns out better than the job they did on mine. I had my lower back done in 85 and have been in pain everyday ever since. Just something I've learned to live with and pop a few pills if it gets too bad. Last year I bought a Mustang GT stick and love it along with my 85.5 944 stick.

As mentioned by Grandad#3, location.
The next problem is the interior/exterior. The final issue will be major repair reciepts. What will the next buyer look for if the exterior is bad? He will want to know about the Clutch, Head gasket and front of engine service-the water pump. You have kept the car in great running shape. To check the local prices and what the cars are REALLY being sold for, check Craigslist in your area. I have seen 1986 to 1988 944 go for about $2500-$3000. I saw a 1988 944 with 100K, garaged and bad clutch for $1000 OBO. Pelican has a forum especially for this question: Pelican MarketPlace forum, what is my car worth? http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-marketplace-discussion/ Good luck on the sale. Just like the real estate market now, everybody low balls the offer. John_AZ 1988 924S + 1987 924S |

I can see you getting a couple of grand for your car thats about it. Theres no way to pull a small loan for a used automatic and keep your car? a year is a long time but it aint that long. in no time whatsoever you'll be wishing you didnt sell it. Seriously exhaust yourself trying to get another car without selling before selling your baby. You can probably get yourself a decent automatic for 1500 - 2000. should last you a year easy. you'll probably sink no more money into it than you do your porsche.
