Gauges working intermitently

Hello,

I just bought an 86 944 without turbo. The gauges work every once in a while. I do hear a clicking noise from the passanger dash area when the gauges go on and off. Does anyone have an idea of what it can be?

All ?

All the guages? If not which ones?http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1253662038.jpg

I have a different gauge cluster but non of the guages work. I have a stock 86 944 non turbo.

Well,... my only guess is maybe the wire connectors on the back of the gauge cluster arent on tight?

See if anyone else chimes in on this before ripping your gauge cluster out. To do that go to clarks-garage.com for the how to.

I did check all the connection on the back of the cluster. Nothing was loose. I am just hoping it is not the computer having issues sending a signal to the gauges. What it seems like is the main power that feeds the instrument cluster is not getting the power to the cluster. I don't know where that wire is fed from

Time to get the specific Model/Year Bentley book out...

944s are notorious for having ground problems. Check your grounding points. 9 out of 10 electrical problems are solved that way.

I have checked most of the grounds. I can not seem to locate all of them. So far no good. Has anyone else had this issue with the whole instrument cluster not working at all but sometimes comes on and works for a short while.

Check the relays first. That was my problem. All gauges and the sunroof would go out. Sorry I don't remember which relay.

Try the search button if you haven't done so.

I know I have read about this problem before either here or at 944online.com

Thanks Eric. I will try that. I will post if I find the issue.
