Well I got my back seats down, not enough room to crawl into the trunk. I see my motor rotating and cable goes in and out of the tubing...the latch won't release. I tried to snag the cable with a coat hanger. I shot it with wd40
It had worked earlier just fine |

assuming this is a cab, open the driver door - in the door jam you will find a plastic vent - remove it - behind there should be a wire cable - pull it to open the trunk

the darnest thing is there isn't enough room to shimmy ones body into the trunk to reach the mechanism either, my head wont fit under the rear shelf (and I'm not a fat head only 7-1/4 hat size) and my arms aren't long enough. I snagged the cable with a coat hanger but to no avail
WTF really P's me OFF guess the P cars dont like me |

look again - that pull wire is supposed to terminate inside the left quarterpanel, accessed from the vent in the door jam - it looks like yours might go the other way though - check the other side

i'm not sure where you are looking - there should be an oval shaped plastic vent in the door jam - you have to remove that to gain access - i don't see that hole in those shots

if i take out the two latch bolts, do you think the latch will come up still attached to the trunk?
I tried the rod attached to the mech but it fell off or is the pin aheld in by a screw?? |

same on both sides? that is very odd - there is supposed to be a cable there
failing that, i would try to rig a leverage arm to pull on the cable - the pic in post 5 looks like you have room in there to do it - you could even get something in there to "wind" on the cable, like the end of a jack handle that had a slot on it for the valve release |

The cable end is off the motor i put a hooked coat-hanger on the cable, pull like hell and it still wont release...
i dunno what to try next.. I am so frustrated glad i'm not on the side of the road in nowhere (celless service) land needing my spare and jack. BTW, I really want thank you flash for your assistance, |

I never seen something so much a pain... fortunately i just found a cheap latch on ebay, if i need it |

think leverage - unless you can get at the right angle, pulling won't do it - however, if you wind on it, it might
take a tube with a slot in the end that is big enough for the cable to sit in - like i said, a jack handle from one of those $40 pep boys specials would be perfect - then twist it hard - you may need a lever arm on this (like a pair of channel locks) - it should put enough pressure on the latch, in the right direction, to release it |

Small Child
Do you have a small four year old in your neighborhood... a small kid should be able to squeeze past... and get in the back of the car.

I remember reading at one point that the emergency release cable started with the 968cab's and the 944cab's did not get them. You can see the difference in PET (no cable for 944 cab's)

that sucks - i never asked that question when i was talking to ASC about the conversion - they said it was identical to the S2 setup - interesting
well, easy to add once access is gained |
