Ball joint on 1986 944

My Ball Joint is trashed on pass side. Becouse im near broke, my machanic will do it for free, just get the parts in.

He then says you cant just do the ball mount and the whole pass side frame needs to be replaced. He is not a Porsche machanic so just thought i would double check. I have to do this as fast and cheap as possible.

Since you have an '86 you've got the newer aluminum arms. "Officially" the ball joint is not a user serviceable part. However, numerous places (including our host) sell a ball joint replacement kit. From one source the kit is $135 and that will do both sides.

Check out the link below. You can replace the ball joint yourself. Look under Control Arms.

I got mine from Rennbay. Brass bushings and a very detailed set of rebuild instructions with pictures.
