Window Help
Well, I was told my window motor/regulator doesn't work, so I ordered a new one, put it in and the damn thing only goes down, I put the old one back in, plugged everything back in, put my window switch back in, and the thing only went down with the old one too, THE OLD ONE WORKS!
I need some help, what would cause it to do this? It will ONLY go DOWN and not back up, I have to disconnect the window motor and regulator and push the window back up by hand. Can anyone help me with this, I am really getting frustrated. Thanks Ian |
WOW how weird is that. I have the same problem. luckily i tested the other motor from my parts car, and didnt buy a new one!! lol, sorry for laughing on your behalf
anyway I believe the problem to be in the connector, or wiring.. not the switch... which window is not going up for you? for me its the passenger side. which, after taking the whole thing apart because i thought it was the motor, i tried using the switch on the driver side and the motor worked up and down. but not with the switch on the pass. side. any help appreciated guys, and gals :) -Ryan |
Switch is bad.

So it is indeed the switch? Because it is the passenger side window. Anyone know where I can buy 2 NEW working switches?

i dont believe its the switch. i tested the other ones i had and still the same thing. down but no up.
is it possible its the connector? |
I got it!
well heres what i did, and it worked for me!
Take the button off the switch. First off it should look like this, with the moving contact thing? in opposite directions ( mine wasnt, lol) http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1255284280.jpg Next, you want to make sure the contacts are clean. Both on the switch itself, and inside contacts shouldn't have any black stuff on them. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1255284360.jpghttp://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1255284433.jpg Notice the black contact on the last picture. After i cleaned that up, and cleaned some grease? where the button terminals touched that moving contact thing, all worked well. Hopefully this helps, if not, then new switches should do the trick. Thanks, Ryan |

try taking it appart and cleaning the contacts before buying a new/used one. |
Had the same issue. Either your switch is bad or the rocking contacts are in wrong. For me, the PO had put the switches back together wrong.

check here for testing the connectors and cleaning the switches, before buying new/used ones.

Well, after cleaning everything and trying to make it work, it only goes down.. Not up. The switch works for down, as before it would go down automatically... whats going on?
|
no help really but confirmatiion on what you're talking about. My '83 does that, passenger side goes down with either switch and won't come back up with either switch.
One thing I have noticed though is on most occasions if I will bring the window "all" the way down it will then come back up with either switch. Partial down it won't budge back up at all. Maybe a contact not closing or something? |
