Temp Sensor in Dash?
What is that thing in the dash near the cig lighter with the grill on it? It looks like a air temperature sensor or something. What does it do?
|
It is a temperature sensor. The climate control uses it to sense the temperature inside the car so it can adjust itself to blow warmer or cooler air.

interesting. thanks!

Ooh! That's exactly what I was looking for! Where you access it from? It's recessed, so do I have to take the dash vents off to get to it? Can I get to it from underneath the dash?
|
Maybe you can get it by taking over the strip covering this covers the clock ??
|
You can access the back of it if you pull the glovebox and go up. You can also take off the side panel, the ac controller, then the trim that covers it to access it from the front.

I have just been through this. Just take the glove box out, you have to anyway. By taking the trim off over the glove box all you are going to see is the end of the vent tube. You will ruin the little plastic tabs that hold in the hadzard light and break the end tab that is under the Heater A/C Control Panel and other plastic tabs as they are brittle from age. The rubber tube goes back to an air type sensor in the air duct, the correct name escapes me right now. It detects changes in air temp. Bi-metal something.
