968 Alarm Goes Off Randomly

The alarm on my 92 968 will go off randomly. Any ideas what the culprit may be? I searched the forums yesterday and I didn't come across anything that ID'd the most likely failure.

I would love to keep the alarm since I drive it to tracks all over the country and leave several grand worth of equipment in the hatch, but if I have to disconnect it I will.

Thanks for your ideas.

Tom

One thing that caused this problem for me was the pad on the hood for the sensor in the engine compartment. It didn't press the switch down far enough, so the alarm would think the hood was being opened and go off. However, I'm not sure if the 968 has that same sensor or not.

Check the metal tab on the right rear hatch strut. It should always make contact with the strut until you close the hatch. Then it slides on to the rubber collar. This has alot to do with the security alarm. Do your door knob lights flash when locked? They should blink a single flash about every 2 seconds when the alarm is working properly. If they blink with 2 quick flashes then pause there is a problem.

well, you can watch the dome light for the door switches, as you move them in and out, to see if they are hanging up (be aware that there is a timer on that one, so it's a pain unless you use a meter)

pretty much the same for the glove box, though to see that one for sure you really need to do it in the dark and see if the light is staying on
