spare tire, jack, tool storage help needed

Not sure how these items fit properly into the car. There is a bracket of sorts welded to the flat surface behind the tire well, I thought maybe for the jack? This is for an early car if it matters.

Thanks

I'm basing this information off of my late model 944.

The welded plate is for the jack. The base plate of the jack slides sideways, front to back, into the slot that you see. It should be very easy to insert. However, you cannot slide the base plate in with the jack completely lowered. It must first be opened up a little. You can then lower it using the cranking flange once it's in place. I believe the factory position is to have the cranking flange on the right-hand-side. The crank tool snaps onto about 4 or 5 clips that are mounted below the jack. The U-shape portion of the tool is supposed to be directly below the jack and the hook part of the crank tool is on the right-hand-side of the car's center line. The spare is then placed into the well with the side of the metal wheel as close as possible to outside wall. There should be a brass eye-hook bolt with a plate that presses the wheel into place. Finger tight is enough.

I recommend that you put the factory tool bag in a very safe place if it's in decent condition. The tools are quick to rust and destroy the bag too if left in the side or tire well. A lot of moisture accumulates there. Frankly, my tool bag is in very good condition so I leave it at home. A tire iron, jumper cables, and a cheapo air pump are really all you need.
