Air Conditioner Compressor Broken

Recently, my 1987 Porsche 924's alternator belt tore itself to pieces as I was driving down the road. I just pulled out my air cleaner and and cleaned it all out. As I was doing so, I discovered that my air conditioner compressor's retaining bolt hole on the rear of the compressor had broken off. Is there any way to fix this without purchasing an entire, new compressor? If not, how can I bypass the compressor (so I only have a belt from the engine to the alternator)? Thanks!

AC bypass no go

Sorry, the AC compressor pulley is used to tension the alternator belt. Bypassing it and running a belt directly from the crank pulley would be problematic as you have nothing to tension it with.

Put up a picture and let me know what you are dealing with. Do ya have all the pieces? If so you could weld or Cold bond it back together. However, without a good picture of your situation I am just guessing.

arrrrgh - unfortunately this happens all too often - the primary cause is people tensioning the belt without first loosening the mounting bolts, and/or forgetting to tighten them back up afterward - this strains the mounting ears, resulting in one or more of them snapping

Lindsey racing has one I think, or you could get fortunate enough to find a parts car with no ac. There are some out there.

On one of your old posts you said the AC was not working. This could be the time to do the R134a change over. EBay has AC reconditioned AC compressors for $230 with a 6 groove pully.
