Rinse engine interior with diesel?

I've got my engine on a stand and would like to rinse/flush it properly before reassembly in case some dust or other particles have gotten in there.

I'm not splitting the block, but cam assembly, balance shaft covers, AOS and oil pan will be removed and resealed.

Is it safe to clean it with diesel, gasoline, brake disk cleaner or something similar and simply let it run into the oil pan and drain it from there?

any of the listed products will remove oil film from parts. i wouldn't.

i used wd40 or some other oil lubricant in a spray can.

never use gasoline to clean anything

do NOT use WD-40 - it contains a solvent that leaves deposits behind and can cause bearing failure if not removed

you can use any engine flush compound intended to be suspended in oil - remember to change your oil shortly after use, even if you use it while the pan is off

a good treatment is Run-Rite for the oil

good to know. so far my bearings are still fine *cross fingers*

yea now that u mention it, wd40 is supposed to leave a film behind. but i'd think engine oil would just wash it off.

WD-40 contains two main components - a solvent to "loosen up rusty bolts" and a lubricant to "quiet down squeaky hinges" - it's a good product, used in the right places, but like anything, used in the wrong places it can do more harm than good

whether or not oil would wash it off is entirely dependent on whether or not the oil will mix with it

i would use a proper engine flush chemical instead

Why not replace the bearings since you have the engine out. I think is cheap insurance.
