Racing Harness
Hey again, had a question of opinion, so in my '87 924S i wanted to put in racing harnesses, and was wondering if its possible to keep the stock seats in it, or if i would have to get racing seats and put those in?

Possible, yes. Safe, no. Without proper seats with holes for the harnesses, they can slip off of you in a crash.

I can see how that would be a problem haha, now is it easy to put in racing seats and a harness in a 924?

not too hard...but most 4point harnesses aren't safe. and in order to run a 5 or 6 point, u'll also need a rollbar.
depends on what yer intending on doing. if yer just doing autocrosses, the schrothe rallye4's can be safe with proper seats. i just happen to be selling a set of them with a harness bar... :P shameless plug. |

there is a lot to consider when mounting harnesses
seats without slots for harnesses are not safe to be used with harnesses harness bars must be the type that cannot allow rotation - many harness bars do not do this, which is why many of them are not approved for track use harness bars must retain strap separation to be safe, and is a new requirement in some DE events harness bars must be a minimum of 1.5" diameter with .120" wall or 1.75" diameter with .090" wall to be safe, and is a requirement in many DE events 4 point harnesses are not particularly safe, and should incorporate an anti-submarine belt, but if installed correctly are better than the 3 point stock belts many states have prohibitive laws regarding non-factory belts - check your local laws there is also a diagram that shows the angles of the belt straps - this is critical to the functionality and safety of harneses - there are minimum and maximum angles and lengths for each strap ![]() |

basically your options for high speed DE's are either oem 3points with stock seats, 5 or 6 points harnesses with a rollbar.
for autocross only, u can do 4 point w/ antisub and a harness bar. this setup is most likely not allowed in your PCA DE's. I only ran it once at PCA DE, although other organizations allowed me to run it just fine. |
