Welcome to the joy of the 931's DITC ignition system.
Most likely the crank sensor is the issue. It's located at the back of the engine on the bellhousing, directly below the ignition coil. Make sure the wiring is not damaged, and clean the contacts on the ignition module (which we call the DITC) on the center tunnel "behind" (actually in front, relative to the car) the radio. The two plugs on it are accessed in the driver's side footwell. If you are getting a crank signal, you should see the tach move when you crank the engine. You should also a) go to the 924board.org discussion forums, where the 924 and 931 experts live, b) unplug the fuel pump relay so you stop filling the crankcase with gas, and c) change the oil - it's very likely diluted with gas and useless for lubrication by now. Also - did this car ever run, and just stop, or are you restoring it? Have you changed the timing belt yet? If not, you must, or look forward to bending a set of irreplaceable valves. etc etc...

The tach inside the car on the dash, yes.
It's not so much that the DITC can go bad, but that corrosion on the connectors can keep it from working. Or the sensor itself can go bad... in which case you're F'ed, time to convert to EFI, as the sensors are no longer available... unless you can find a good used one. But they're rare, since the cars are rare. I think you should read my post here before you go any further: 924Board.org :: View topic - 931 Resuscitation - how to resurrect a long-dead turbo Certainly, you can focus on the electrical/ignition stuff, before spending any more money. But you should read it all.
