Lightbulb SOUTHEAST 944 GATHERING (ideas/planning thread)

Cross-posted from the Rennlist board... SOUTHEAST 944 GATHERING (ideas/planning thread) - Rennlist Discussion Forums

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi everybody. My local 944 brothers have been itching to have another 944 gathering here in Orlando, and we'd like our 'meet' to grow to an 'event' by inviting a bigger group of cars and possibly providing some more vendors and race cars to check out, as well as more activities.

And since 944Fest is in Ohio during the summer, and there are other big events around the country... I thought it would be nice to have a Southeast 944 event during the early spring.

Of course, it would take place here in Orlando since this is where it all got started a couple years back, meeting just 5 or 6 cars up at a local Hooters.

Last year our 944 gathering started on top of a parking garage in downtown Orlando, and cruised around some of Orlando's most scenic, twisty roads, ending up at a bbq restaurant where some 944 cup cars were presented. Everybody had a blast and was begging for another great time ASAP! Here are the pictures from last year's meet:
http://forums.rennlist.com/rennforum...ferrerid=49442

So I'm looking for some new ideas, as well as knowing if more people from out of state might be interested in coming down.

Update: This event will most likely take place in March... but not during the weekend of the Sebring 12 Hours endurance race. Does anyone know of any other events happening in March that might interfere?

Vote on the poll if you are interested in joining, and please share any ideas you may have for our next big 944 event!

Thanks!

Spring break for the college kids, which kind of fits right in with the Rennlist crowd. Other than that, the March of Dimes comes to mind. J/K.

Elliot:
It would be great if you could hold the event at a track venue like you did at Gainesville a few years ago so you could set up some sort of driving event like a lap time competition or an autocross.....it might help generate more participation.
You could also do a swap meet and a car show to round out the festivities. I don't have any experience in running those things, but I would be willing to volunteer to help out wherever needed......I'm sure you will get plenty of volunteers if you ask for some help.......Terry

Terry, excellent advice! I am actually leaning toward March 6th as our date, and March 7th for an optional autocross with Martin Sports Car Club for those who are interested. I will confirm the date hopefully by the end of this week.

There will be a couple guys heading down from the Jacksonville area this time around if you'd like to meet up with them on the way!

Also, groups of guys heading over from Tampa, Miami, and possibly one or 2 confirmed from the Washington DC area if anyone from these areas would like to cruise with others.

no problem, I understand completely! Thank you for showing interest though.

I believe 944fest in Ohio is usually during the summer, I may try to make the trip myself this year.. we'll see.

Elliot: I was telling my brother Tom about your upcoming event and he said you had just stopped by his shop....he said some good things about you. He also told me about a new venue in Orlando that he has heard about that might be great for a future event.....it's called the Central Florida Racing Complex and it's located at the east end of the Central Florida Parkway. Tom said he has heard it's a cool setup and you can rent the complex for whatever type of event you want to hold. You can do drifting, autocross, drag racing, etc. Might be great for a bunch of renegade Porsche's........Terry

Hey Terry,
I didn't know Tom was your brother!!! Haha that's cool, what a small world it is!! He is a great guy too, I bought a set of studded wheel spacers from him a few months ago, and he gave me a great price, let me test fit them on the car before I bought them, and was just as enthusiastic to talk about Porsches as I was! I stopped by last week or two to check out a set of wheels he has for sale for a customer at the shop I work at. I will probably swing by there again to say hello and drop off some event fliers.

As for CFRC, I have been there a dozen times already haha . In fact, I am stopping by there tomorrow for a drift event. Not participating this time though, just spectating.

I think I may setup an event at something like this at some point... It may be hard to get a lot of the guys to sign up, since a lot of them just use their 944's as daily drivers or garage queens, but it would be fun for sure! ..But for now I like the old school style 'meet and cruise' type of event, I think you won't be disapointed this time with what's in store for this event Hope you can make it down!!

Great! I will add you to my mailing list, so keep an eye on your PM box in the next few days...

In the mean time, tell me a bit about your car, maybe a picture, and your name!

I'll be meeting and talking a bit with everyone who comes so it will be nice to associate the names and cars to the forum names.

I know there are more of you guys hiding... The poll tells me there are at least 8 people from here that could potentially make it!

This event will only happen ONCE per year, so you don't want to miss it!
