help! stripped hex's cant remove seat.

I removed my passenger seat without problem. My driver seat I have 2 hex bolts that are stripped. How do i get these out?? Can they be drilled out? I need your help desperately.

Ooh, that sucks. My fog lights had the same problem and I ended up drilling them out. The drill bit wanted to dance like crazy but I eventually got em. Depending on where the bolts are located it might be real difficult to get a gun in there, but thats what I would do. I have a suggestion or two more but drilling them out is the way to go. Let me know how it turns out. Good luck.

VISE GRIPS to the rescue. I have about 6 different sizes from large to small, regular nose to loooong nose.

Cheers,
Larry

Just saw Rennlist, definitely follow Colin944's advice. Try his options before you go and tear up the bolt tryin to get it out.

getting to the bolt isnt a problem because the seat bottom is ****...so if i have to rip it up and go through the springs thats fine... I have to go get some good vise grips i guess. thanks for the help guys!

Grabbing those allen heads in the seat rails with a vice-grips is going to be difficult as there is no room.

If the allens are not completely rounded out, try valve grinding compound. It works very well on worn phillip head screws, triple square CV and clutch bolts and allen head bolts.

If that does not work, try cutting a flat blade screwdriver slot in the allen with a Dremel cut off wheel.

OK, So what size voltage dremel do i need?

Grandad#3 12-11-2009 06:21 PM

Buy a Hobbyist size 110 Volt Dremel Kit. Buy a few extra cut off wheels that are at least the size of a quarter or larger.

Larry

Irwin Industrial Tool Co 394001 Bolt Grip Extractor Set

Is this going to fit in the seat rail? The bolt is almost taking up all the space between the sides.

Are you still messing around with one screw? Buy the Dremel Tool. You will be surprised at how many things you find a use for it around the house and the car.

Cheers,
Larry

I just haven't found time to get into the garage yet. I am going to dremel a slit and try a screw driver..
