Is this the standard 944 N/A chip?

While I have the DME out to look for ICV transistor failures (which I think I may have found), I took a picture of the chip installed for you to tell me if it's the standard chip. The previous owner was trying to 'track' the car I think and has done some weird things and I wouldn't have put it past him to have installed some funky chip in it hoping to get an extra 200 horsepower or something.

ANYWAY, is this the original chip?

I have a feeling that is not stock.

I think the stock chip does not have a window (the glass that exposes the eeprom chip)

which leads me to another downer- you shouldn't have pulled the sticker off. Programmable EEPROM chips are erased by exposing them to UV light. Put it back on pronto. you probably haven't damaged it yet as it takes high amounts of UV to erase them, but it's not good. Especially do not expose it to sunlight.

Yeah i only pulled it off for like the time it took to expose the print on the chip, indoors, in my dark room.

Anyone else? I have no idea what the stock and/or aftermarket chips look like.

Give this site a try Power PROM default - from "The 944 Motronic DME" by FR Wilk Go to the " can I chip my Porsche 944" section, there are good pictures of the DME.

Yeah I was there like 4 minutes ago. Unfortunately, the pictures aren't very clear and almost all are from early 944's.

It doesn't look like it. Especially with the hand written sticker on it.
This pic is a little blurry, but you can see my stock chip in the board, and my aftermarket chip pictured up top (also has a sticker on it).

I was hoping there was an easy way to spot the originals. BAH.

I'm not seeing any issue, I don't think... However, I've never driven a 944 with a known stock chip in it!

for what it's worth, 2 weeks ago i swapped out my performance chip and put the stock back in. (i'm doing a little experiment to see if i get better gas mileage). but to my surprise, i found no noticeable difference after i put the stock chip back in. none.

I noticed a difference with the Wilk chip.
The flat spot from 2500 rpm to 3500 rpm is gone. the power curve is nice & smooth
It also fixes the return to idle shudder

See, I have a return to idles shudder, I believe. I can't be sure since I've never driven another 944, but it does fall to well below 1000rpm before returning to stable when clutching in.
