Brakes clicking
My brakes are clicking on my front passenger side wheel.
When i took the wheel off and spin in, theres a point where it makes the pad move. Making it click. theres a retaining spring clip thing in there that holds the pad on, could it be worn out? or could my rotor be bent? what should i check first? THanks, -Ryan

....that's...wierd.
what do u mean when u spin the wheel? is it only at a certain spot that the pad can move laterally? or is it that there's always slack and the rotor catches it at a certain point? hard to tell...but those pins..i wouldn't expect to be a wear item. |

wrong pads? aftermarket cheap pads? or misboxed

When i spin the rotor, theres a certain point where it grabs, causing the pad to move.
About the pads, i'm not sure. Who knows what these PO's have done :P

hm.....yea i'll entertain the idea that the rotors are actually warped.
but typically pads don't move cause there's no slack between the pad and the rotor surface. once the piston presses down for the first time, there's never a gap. unless your wheel bearing is shot and the hub+rotor is wobbling. then yea..... |

I could see both the bearing and the warped rotors as a plausible cause if you have a straight edge you could do a very basic check for warped rotors but the edge of the rotor will be higher than the surface so it might be difficult. A bad bearing would probably make noise and there would be end play. this sure is an odd problem

if the pad itself is moving parallel to the rotor when you turn the rotor, something is wrong with the pad, either it got damaged, misboxed, or cast wrong, there should be almost ZERO clearance from the edges of the pads to the caliper, if this is where the pads have slack , get some new oem pads.

As above, but first adjust the wheel bearings so you can rule them out of the equation. Then you can look for a warped rotor or bad pads.
