Best Degreaser

So I'm on a quest of undercarriage cleanliness...

I've found that Maguiars APC and a brush is great on wheel wells, and any painted surfaces with undercoating. However, it's not really working out so well on the transaxle and aluminum suspension bits which have become caked (and I mean CAKED) with road grime and grease over the last 24 years. My car has never been in a winter climate so I don't have much corrosion, but I don't think it's ever been cleaned. Just yesterday I found out that the back part of the transaxle is aluminum and not iron like the gear carrier -- they were the same color before.

So, I need something powerful to break it down. Any ideas?

I begin with a pocket of quarters and go to the self service car wash and use the "degrease" cycle and wand. Never do this on the engine bay!

What is left over, I get dirty and scrape, scrub and wipe.

Or you can read what the pros do at:

If it is metal, brake cleaner works the best. Just don't get it on the paint!

Solvents i use Depending on the location, amount and kind of grease
ZEP Citrus Degreaser (home depot)
Castrol Super Clean ( walmart)
Denatured Alcohol (Hardware store)
Carb Cleaner (walmart)
Brake Parts Cleaner (walmart)

A Pressure works well for blasting off buildup, washer the car in general, cleaning you're sidewalk etc etc.

Hot water from a kettle poured over the object before and after using the degreaser works well.

I Personally power wash everything I can first. Then use a solvent with a brush and rinse off of coarse. For heavy duty stuff you can get to with a power washer Solvent and a nice very stiff nylon brush that works best for that job and have at it.I us the Zep Citrus solvent because its easy on the hands when you compare it to the other stuff. The Castroll Super Clean works the Best for the really bad stuff. A little foaming GUNK Engine cleaner works for the tuff spots.
