Hooking up seats to external power source?

I have a pair of torn up sports seats from a project car that have been exposed to the elements. I was planning on reupholstering them, but before I do that I am curious to see if they work or not. I searched and could not find much on rennlist or pelican, so I am wondering if it is possible to hook it up to an external source such as a battery or a battery charger?

Thanks

I've used a battery and have used a battery charger with the amps at lowest setting to test mine.

There's your answer. Just make sure you are applying the power, with correct polarity, to the correct wires or pins. If polarity is reversed, the controls will operate in reverse of what is expected.

Thanks guys! I hooked it up to a battery charger and set it to the lowest setting and it worked well. 3 out of the 4 controls work, so I'll have to clean the grounds or diagnose a bad switch.

If you find out it's the switch there's not going to be a whole lot you can do about it except replace the switch assemble (hard to find good used). I read up on malfunctioning seat switches when I was diagnosing one in the 944S. Very difficult to take those apart, clean and get the switch back together. I ended up basically shooting tuner cleaner into the switch to get the adjustment I was seeking. But it would always return to an intermittent or non-functional state in a few minutes.
