cam box swap
Had an issue with a noise in the front of the engine several months ago. Turned out to be a loose cam bolt, tightened it, noise went away, and I drove the car for a few weeks. Shut it down for winter, left it down over the summer because I wanted to replace my belts, and I'm in process of getting it back on the road for summer. I decided to replace the cam box gasket and seals (due to leaks), and found that when the cam bolt worked loose, the end of the cam got damaged, my cam belt sprocket has play because of damage at the key. I have a cam box from an '87 924s, can I just swap it over to my '86 944? How terrible would it be if my lifters got switched from their original holes?

The two are interchangable, the same part really. I wouldnt worry too much about the lifters either. I would be more concerned if they were not soaked in oil, even then its not that big a deal.

Thanks, basically what I figured, but it sure is reassuring to be able to see if you're wrong before a mistake results in broken part$.
