Spring Plate "Stop Washer"
OK, so FSM shows a procedure using some special VW tool to load the spring plate prior to tightening the cover, to put the "stop washer" in the correct position.
Any advice on this? Has anyone developed a procedure to deal with the stop washer? I am frankly unclear as to its purpose. TIA rasta

If you're talking about the oval shaped washer that goes in the bottom corner , it keeps the spring plate from travelling to a full unloaded position. I just put mine back using the clean part as a guide of how it came out. If I remember right, the hole will only line up in one position.
Who knows, mine might not be "right", but the worst that could happen is slightly less spring travel. But the shock stops it before it gets that far anyway. Important thing is to not tighten that bolt without the washer in, you'll crack plate cover.
