Thumbs down Upshift light on 85.5

Is there a way to disconnect the upshift arrow light or is it as simple as pulling the gauge cluster and removing the bulb?
That $#@^*&! thing drives me nuts!!

Pete,

It is a bulb, I believe. Mine is going "bye-bye" this weekend, as I am intalling the white guage faces (which would look good in your white 944), and they don't have the cut-out for it on the face. Yay for me!

Man, how am I going to know when to shift now..............boyee?

Pete,

I installed the white faces today, and took a good look at the bulb for the upshift light. It is "captivated" in a little cylinder that is a b*tch to get at/out. Thinking back on it now, I would just suggest for you to cut the lead going to it and seal the end of the wire. This would be the easiest way to go, and allow for you to hook it back up later in case you so desire without having to remember where you put the bulb. I also ordered the white faces that DO NOT have the damn fuel-economy gauge, so I was able to delete that as well by removing the mechanism from the cluster. Looks much nicer and cleaner now. No more annoying things going on in the guage cluster now....

Thumbs up

Thanks for the info. I'l cut that little bugger out first chance I get. More importantly where did you get the gauge faces and how much? Also, hows the car running with the new belts?

Pete,

I picked up the gauge faces thru a company called "Driver's Edge". They are the ones selling them on Ebay. I contacted them directly and they told me that they would sell a set outright for $70. The gauge faces are VERY good quality, better than most I have seen. They are a hard plastic, with the face printed on it. The Speedo and tach have a metal backing, while the outside gauges are adhesive-backed. They are desgned so that they let the light thru in the needed warning areas, and don't ave those annoying "cut-outs" that the faces had in the excellence article. Let me know if you want to come by and check them out so you get a good idea before you purchase.

The car is running great, but it ran great before (no indication of anything going wrong until it happened). It is comforting to know that all of that crap is new under there now. NOT very comforting to my wallet, though......

what upshift light on the 85.5 ?

I guess I should be glad that mine either doesn't work or has been removed. I never knew that there was an upshift light.

But out of curiousity, where is the upshift light on the instrument panel ?

shlim- Its a little 'up' arrow in the middle of the tachometer. It lights up whenever it is safe to shift to the next gear. I found it kinda annoying at first, but have since learned to ignore it. If I shifted every time that light lit up, I'd be in fourth gear by the end of my driveway.
