Power Steering Question

The hoses on my sons car have rotted at the point they go into the reserve tank, it looks like the one hose is a part of the cooler loop in the front of the car. Has anyone figured a way to replace the rubber part without having to replace the entire loop?

The other hose I figure I can just use hydraulic hose for it since there are no fittings on it.

Thanks

Hi mikeran, If you take the cooler line into a hydraulic hose shop they MAY be able to make up a hose for you. Just depends if they have the correct metric end fittings required. Let us know if that works out for you.

Cheers,
Larry

The "other hose" is the fluid reservour to pump hose and is now upgraded and has a new fitting....

Thanks
NOTE: The pressure hose coming off the PS reservoir tank to the cooling pipe...
Do not cut this hose short where the screw clamp held it to the reservoir. The inside of the hose gets THICK and will not slide over the reservoir nipple. Cut maybe a 1/4 inch of the hose and lower the clamp. This may help or just follow Grandads suggestion.

I have signs of leaking P.S fluid that the PO ignored. Seems it is leaking at the both clamps at reservoir and maybe even from the cup since the reservoir had fluid residue on it. The hoses look OK to me. The PO used hardware store clamps. What type clamps do you recommend? The cup has no O ring or gasket, should it have one? My car is a 1984 944 NA.
Thanks.

You should use a "non perforated" screw clamp or a fuel injector hose clamp

Some reservoir caps do not use a large "O" ring seal and the seal is embedded in the reservoir cap. It depends on the MFG.

Yes do not use the perf clamps, that is one of the issues with mine. John thanks on the cooler loop hose, that was the idea I had as well to just trim a slight amount off the one as there is enough slack in the hose.

So that hose fitting replaces the banjo bolt side fitting that is on the pump now?

yes & use the banjo copper crush washer if the new one does not have one included
