you could make a SUPER nice fiberglass center insert that would be great for GPS , or a monitor or XM....

I built a gps mount for my 84 944 and covered it in a micro fiber suede material. It has a frame type surround and the gps was a snug fit. It fit my garmin nuvi 205w. It was molded with fiberglass and body filler. I still have the mount and the gps. can take a pic if you like and email it to you, don't know how to post them on here though. I built a harness that I hard wired into the fuse panel with a small rocker switch to charge it from behind when needed without having to remove it or run some bulky plug in and cord. I hated the blank speaker, and like to make voids functional if possible. A gps hanging from the windshiel is cool, but why when you can move it down 10 inches out of your field of vision. haha.

I'm sure I know the answer to this, but who all has used those pop out gps/stereo screens? I think the in dash one would be better, but does the shifter get in the way??

Pictures would be cool.

that is exactly why i have the deck in that i have now in the blue 968 - i couldn't do a 2D becaue of my gauges in the other slot that i cannot give up and none of the 1D units would put the screen where it didn't get in the way of something (either the shifter or the heater controls)

so, i ended up with the jvc single din unit with nav - i like it, but it isn't as easy to use as the pioneer Z2 that i have in the other 2 cars

Here are a few pics of the gps mount that I made. a little crude from the back, but once mounted very sturdy and easy to use.
