1983 door question

I bought two 944 doors that I thought were 1983, but they are not. They didn't have the "bumper" on the side, i.e., see the picture.

Anyone have experience moving one of these bumpers to a later model door?

Thanks for the help.

Randal

Yes. I usually use a roll of 3M double sided sticky tape.. Although, I'm not sure if that's the factory recommended procedure :P

the thicker kind, not the thin one

Removal....There may be a rivet just inside the door. you will have to pop it. I suggest you get some dental floss of fishing line to help you seperate the molding from the door. You can buy a 3M pinstripe removal wheel (30 - 40 bucks) to remove the rest of the adhesive with out damaging your pain. I live this product!!!

I have never added one but it is an adhesive. 3M makes great products.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.

No rivet, it just falls off on the freeway one day.

Use a heat gun and keep moving it as you remove the bumper strip. Fishing line works great, you tie it around a wood dowel rod and saw back and forth as the heat is applied. It helps if you have a third hand to work the heat gun.

Cheers,
Larry

Appreciate all the help.

I'll take off the strip and put it on the new (old) door as soon as I get the body work done on the replacement door.

Wonder why they didn't put the strip on later models? It sure does keep the door looking good when unobservant parties bang their doors into yours.

It was an extra cost option on all the cars, including the early ones.

I didn't know that the strips were an extra cost option. Learn a whole bunch here.
