Bottom end questions

So I spun a rod bearing yada yada yada. I'm in the process of my rebuild and I'm not sure if I should re-use my crank after having it machined or just find a used one without a spun bearing.

I'll prolly re-use my pistons and most of the bottom end. Also, I'll be putting in an aluminum flywheel.

Are these significant changes that might require significant balancing of the crank itself?

Have you found bearings for your new crank/rod dimension? Alignment of the cradle is critical.

I have seen cranks bent from spun bearings. You need to take the crank to a shop and have them check it out. That is the only way to know it if might be salvageable.

Non-standard rod bearings get very expesive very fast so while they might be able to turn it you need to know what size bearings you will need first.

Often you can get a used crank for not much money.

Make sure that your machine shop completely cleans out the oil passages in the crankshaft. You should have the plugs drilled out so you can clean out the dead ends where the metal accumulates.
