944S Engine Rebuild

I am currently assembling a 1988 944S engine and was wondering
does anyone have any photos of an"S"rebuild or know of a location
online that will help me with the process. I am really interested in
any "S" engine photos from every angle.

The factory manuals have a lot of great shots with respect to specific procedures including tearing down the whole engine. They can usually be found online.

Good luck. I haven't come across any relevant pics but have had the experience of stripping a 944S engine down (yes I know, thats the easy bit). I bought a complete S as a parts car which had dropped a valve and punched a hole through a piston. I still have the head which is toast due to the valve snapping off a jamming itself sideways in its port. A broken valve spring was the cause. Heartbreaking for the previous owner as he had just reconditioned the head! It has made me paranoid about my own valve springs now lol.

Where a rebuild on a 944S might get a bit complex (if no notes/pics were taken), might be it's over complicated intake system. Personally, I would use the S2 intake for this reason. If ever the term "German over-engineering" needs a glowing example, then it's the 944S intake arrangement. But thats not to say it is inferior if you know your way around it.

Apart from the above, you should be able to do the usual bearing shells, rings & seals without any pictorial support. Setting up the cams to initial TDC is a simple enough procedure and does not need any fancy instruments. A common sense "tension by feel" will also suffice for the cambelt for an initial start-up.

This is the best I can do for you.. my S is being rebuilt by experts after some serious PO neglect.

Short Block - Replaced with rebuilt unit
Head - Replaced and performance enhanced
Clutch - Upgraded to Turbo
Wiring Harness - Replaced
Valve Cover - Replaced

I am in the process of a 944S engine rebuild as well. I have the engine out and just about completely stripped down though I haven't opened it up yet. I've been taking lots of pictures every step of the way. Keep my contact info and email/PM me if there is anything specifc you end up needing.
