late offset rebuildable strut housings???

Were there ANY o.e. strut housings after 1985.5 that had removable gland nuts such that the strut insert can be replaced without requiring the cut-and-bolt method?

I've done a bit of searching on this issue, and I'm getting conflicting information in various threads. I've seen a few references where folks claim to have late offset cars that had removable strut inserts, but I haven't been able to isolate it to a particular year or trim level. Also, I have a set of late strut housings at home that appear to have a gland nut. They don't look like these, which are obviously the sealed variety:

I've not seen one. Probably only seen around 100 pairs of late struts in total.

How do you know they are late housings? I don't think rebuildable late struts exist.

*EDIT*

Oh wait, I have some '86 951 housings that LOOK like they have a nut, but it isn't actually threaded.

The ones I have are definitely late, they have the 63mm spacing at the mounting point, still have the ABS harnesses attached, and the late style upper strut mount. I think they're not rebuildable, will have a closer look this weekend. Looks like I may have to break down and figure out how to modify early ones to fit late spindles.

Is there a reason you don't want to do the Koni rebuild?

I already have a set of adjustable konis with ground control coil over setup configured for early strut housings, so I was hoping to use them and avoid the extra cost of buying new and the hassle of having to try to sell the ones I have. It wasn't going to be an issue until I happened across those 968 baby brembos

Maybe I should pull the koni inserts out that I have and see if they could be used with the bolt in approach on the late struts...but I got the impression that was a special setup.

Ah, I hear ya. You are right, the bolt-in inserts are specially made. FWIW, Paragon will install the hack n bolt setup pretty cheaply. . .

Yeah, I was looking at that, and if I can't find a way to safely modify what I have, I may end up having to sell it to subsidize buying the Paragon stuff.

Here's an idea. . .since you'll be needing a new ARH kit for the late struts, and the springs are the same, you could get race-level springs with your new kit so you can sell the earlies to a spec racer.
