Siphoning Fuel from 85.5

With about half tank of 30 month old fuel to get rid of...I just tried pushing a siphon hose down through the filler...but the hose does not seem to want to go down any farther than about 6 inches. Is something in the way...like the sending unit? Any tricks to this? Any chance I may damage anything (the siphon hose is soft plastic)? Thanks!

Just snaked about 4 feet of hose into the tank....and get nothing. Tried repositioning the hose several times...and still nothing. Battery is dead so I cannot check level with guage. I guess I'll just assume that there's fuel in there someplace, remove the line from the bottom, and catch it there.

But too bad that siphoning is not working...anyone else had the same luck?

Be cautious if you take the line off the bottom. There can be some pressure there and whatever fuel is in the tank can come out a bit faster than you might anticipate. And there might be more of it than you think as well (more fuel than the 5 gal plastic gasoline tank most people have).

IIRC, there's an access panel in the top of the tank. Remove the rear carpeting and see if you see a plate that you could remove and look into the tank...

I've removed the line at the bottom before.
Works a charm. Use vice grips or something like that on the hose while you pull the line off so it doesn't go everywhere.
