Evaluating Old Springs - How?
I just extracted the front struts from my 85.5 - and want to separate the springs so that I can evaluate both these and the inserts. What I would like is a "standard" (not lowered) ride height - and I'd also like my ride to be relatively "soft." Folks have recommended that the stock setup would be best. But how do I tell if this is what I already have mounted? I'm concerned that my ride height may be a bit low - not because it was lowered intentionally, but because the springs have sagged.
For example, is there a measurement table for springs - so I can compare what I have to this, and to also compare to my springs to see if mine are either in spec..or have sagged over the years? Ideally, I'd be able to look at a spring chart...listing the "wire diameter," the number of coils per unit of measure, and the correct length of the spring when uncompressed. This is all standard engineering stuff. Does this info exist someplace for the various springs available for the 944? Thanks! |
