86 944 with 2 different VIN's?

Hello. I recently bought a 1986 NA 944 (my first Porsche BTW). When writing up the bill of sale, I noticed there were 2 diffrent VIN's? There was one on the windshield and then under the hood on the drivers side, and they both matched, but on the passangers side, under the hood, there is a differnt VIN, it's a Euro VIN, the owner wasn't sure why. We check over the car, there is no sign of it perhaps being 2 cars welded together. We decided to go with the VIN on the windshield for the Bill of sale, but I am still curious as to why I would have 2 different VIN's. Has anyone else seen this before, or have any clue why this would be?? Thanks for the help!

The VIN on the chassis (near the battery) is stamped before the car is built. At that time, it is given a ZZZ code (which stands for ROW). As the car is being built, it gets the VIN near the base of the windshield, and, if it is a USA or Canada car, it get's the AA* VIN, which is the one that your DMV should have on the title.
