front bumper

I feel real dumb.. I built a garage for a 914, and now I'm tring to park my 944 in it. Its a little short.

Anyway I pushed the front bumper in by just touching the wall and it looks real bad.

Now how do I get the bumper back out??? It's only pushed in on one side.

hello.

the bumper has two shocks behind it, that get pressed in when you hit something. if you remove the bumper by:

unscrewing the 2 bolts underneith, then unhook the wires to the sidemarker lights on each side, the bumper slides right off.

you will see two black shocks, one for each side, and one will be shorter than the other, haha. they are held on by 2 bolts each, just remove the bolts and pull the shock out, and stick a new one in.

I have no idea where to get a new shock, but they are not repairable.

Everthing you wanted to know about the front bumper modification...

"Hi everybody...have heard from some of you about the bumper mod...so here's the basics...and don't do this mod if you are worried about safety...as this mod effectively reduces the cars ability to absorb impacts through the bumper shocks...Also be safe while you're performing all the steps...
Wolf Bumper Mod:

1. Remove the front bumper and related turn signal light connections

2. Remove the bumper shocks

3. With a small drill bit drill out the pressurized tubes (near the center of the shock) in each bumper shock...wear protective glasses as the fluid from the shock will shoot out once the tube is drilled

4. Remove the bumper pads from the bumper

5. Remove the dowels (that center the bumper pads) - use vice grips if you have too - the dowels will come off eventually

6. Install the bumper and related lights back onto the car (polish the bumper completely to remove the stains left from the bumper pads if you wish)

7. Install the bumper shocks back onto the car

8. With everything connected push the bumper to compress the bumper shocks

9. Center the bumper in desired recessed position

10. Place a piece of tape across the bumper pad holes (preferably the same color as the bumper)

11. Enjoy!

P.S.

The bumper shocks usually have a lot of friction built into them. If your shocks are sloppy, you can simply weld them in the compressed position.

That was the easyest bumper removal I've every done!

Anyway I got lucky I guess . I turned and pulled on the shock bumper and it shoot right back where it needed to be.

N.A. bumper mod..


remove 2 bolts that hold on the bumper on

take off parking light conenctors..

remove bumper shocks and take out metal dowels behind them

take off bumper shocks and drill into the barell untill fluid comes out. (wear safety goggles)

let ALL fluid come out and then put shocks back on and replace bumper

push bumper back to compress the shocks

dont compress shocks before or you wont be able to reach the bolts to screw the bumper on..

there is enough friction in the shocks so that the bumper stays in the place that you push it into.

Question--if you're not supposed to push the bumper in BEFORE you bolt it back on, how do you get it off again AFTER you've pushed it in? Because, if I understand it, once you push it in the bolt holes are hidden by the spoiler (thus you can't bolt it on, so how can you unbolt it later if need to?)

the holes dont go ALL the way back under.. they just go about half way, disabling a wrench from reaching.. you can still hook your fingers into the holes and pull it out.

I'm ready to go outside and do the mod but I love my bra when I do alot of highway driving and smile alot as I hear the rocks pinging off the front end. Has anyone fitted the bra on after the mod?

From what i saw the bumper being pushed in didn't look good from a front view., but then my cars red not black.

If you want to see what it will look like just go fine a strong wall and push the nose of it in with your cars own power.

Does anyone know if this bumper mod can be done when you have the headlight washer option? I'm guessing that it's not gonna work.

A friend of mine had his mustang slowly rolling backwards while he has talking to another guy, and hit the front bumper of my car. I saw the bumper go in and bounce right out immediately without doing any damage to either car. Now if I had the bumper mod, it would have been ugly.
