Rattle - Trunk closing mechanism
Hi all,
I have a '91 944 S2 and I was hoping someone could give me some advice on how to get rid of a rattle. I have finally got to the bottom of an annoying rattle. It is the trunk and seems to be the left hand closing mechanism (ok, that's not the right word, but the left hand mechanism that keeps the trunk closed). Once the rattle develops, I just have to open the trunk and shut it properly again. However, recently it is there all the time and the left mechanism does not seem to hold the trunk fully shut any more. If someone can understand what I am saying, are there any suggestions as to how to, maybe, tighten the left mechanism so it closes the trunk properly? Thanks |
Hi bpk, Clean the lock of old grease until the lock claws work freely and re-lube with white lithium grease, not the spray kind. Should fix you right up and do the same with the right side.

First off, do as Grandad# says and clean and lube the mechanism.
If that does not fix the issue, the pin may not be set at the correct length... the pin is located in the hatch itself under the spoiler, it is threaded with a lock nut. If the trunk is sometimes not latching on that side I would play with the length adjustment a bit. |
Hatch latches ??##!!!!
Hi ,the latches wear out and the square edge inside rounds off so that the reciever pin pops out,I got a set of good ones on ebay for $25 MUCH improved.
Be careful when adjusting the pins as they rust up and snap off easily,by all means clean up the recievers as thats all it could be,cheers. |
