AXQ 4.2 Audi V8

I've heard it said that Audi used the same bellhousing pattern on their newer V8's as they did their 5 Cylinder engines, also the same as the 924 bellhousing pattern.

am I correct in this?

I've got oppertunity to buy a 4.2 V8 from a tourareg (same as the audi mill) for a song and wondiering if I can piece together a hybrid drive train for another project (not going into a Porsche, but 924/944 drivetrain is what I'm hoping will work)

Audi 5 cylinder was the same bolt pattern as the 924 2.0 motor, basically. But that was a LONG time ago - I wouldn't assume the newer Audi V8s to be of the same pattern. I'd check over on Motorgeek.com, or call 034 Motorsports - they'd know for sure.

Audifans may also know. I know V8s have been installed in 5cyl cars but do not know what was done.

What I've heard is that the tranny in the back of our 944s is the same tranny as used in the front of some Audi - probably the old 5000 - way back when. So the bolt pattern that would bolt up to an Audi engine is the bolt pattern on the front of the tranny. Because if you think about it why would the 944 tranny have such a wide bolt pattern just to bolt up to a torque tube? It's because the clutch was there and the engine in a front wheel drive car.
