Stereo Bracket
Hello,
When I bought my 83 944 last fall I noticed the stereo was just laying on the transmission tunnel and was not properly mounted. I got this stock stereo bracket off ebay but have no idea how it mounts. Any help on figuring this out would be appreciated. Thanks

If you have an aftermarket radio that bracket usualy gets in the way. But the tabs on either side are used to help support the center console. If i remember corectly the Duck mouth part of the bracket faces out towards the radio. I had to break it off to let my radios fit.. then i removed it ( big mistage) because it was scratching the radio. In hindsight i should have just grinded it down smooth.
Ps if you're center counsol is pretty loos or kinda goes up and down as if it was loose then you have the same prob i do and you have to bolt up that braket to help support it.

That bracket bolts to the center tunnel. You attach your console to the "ears" on the gold part, and your radio slides between the springy parts of the aforementioned "duck mouth". The knobs of the radio poke through the console and all that together holds the radio in place..., sort of.
IIRC, I had to put the bracket in, slip the radio into the duck mouth, then hold it all in place as I slid the uber-fragile console in place over the radio, and the hvac controls, and the wiring for the gauges. Aaaahhh, German engineering, dontcha lovit? |
