What year(s) had an MPG gauge?

Well? What year(s)/models came with the funky "mpg" gauge in the Tachometer?

Cocacolakidd 05-13-2010 05:01 PM

85.5 to 88 944 NA's

Oops forgot about the early models 83 - 85. So now it's 83 through 88early 944 Na's

ddbach 05-13-2010 06:02 PM

My 88 doesn't, but I've got the little shift now light for better MPG.

I never watch it... Its rather worthless.... I've got the shift light too... :P

I ignore it too... Its a gutless wonder if you watch that.....

p-talk 05-13-2010 07:19 PM

My '84 has one too. I like using it when I'm putting along in traffic TRYING to drive normal. But when I'm getting on it, there are other gauges that are more important :p.

luftpirate 05-13-2010 07:23 PM

Its not worthless, its used to adjust your cruise speed for best fuel economy. Meant for highway usage.

Techno Duck 05-13-2010 07:25 PM

MPG gauge was only '83 - 86

A) its not accurate.... Its merely a vac pressure gauge....
B) Who the hell adjusts cruise based on efficency? I adjust cruise for traffic and weather conditions... the better the faster....

HondaDustR 05-13-2010 07:36 PM

The mpg gauge does not use vacuum.

Was there ever a white marked tach with the MPG gauge?

yeah, I never liked the early yellow guages and mine are white. it would be cool to find a tach with the MPG since mine doesn't have it. Not too keen on the ricerboy white background conversion. It just doesn't look right on these cars.

mattdavis11 05-13-2010 10:35 PM

You guys have cruise? I'm on the flip side of the coin, I'd back date. I have always enjoyed seeing the tach winding down, and watching the mpg gauge.

Yes. I had an '87 924S that had white-on-black gauges with the MPG gauge in the tach.

enderjetta 05-14-2010 07:26 PM

my, 87 924s has it
plus shift light!!

Tervuren 05-15-2010 11:02 AM

All of my cars have it, it probably cost me a lot of time in driving slower, heh.
