DME relay

Hello, Just wondering what the deal is with this relay, is it a standard relay you can get anywhere? or a special item. Ive been driving around for 2 years without a spare and would like to be prepared for the worst.

Which leads me to the spare tire, how the **** am I going to inflate that bastard on the side of the road haha. Guess Ill throw my electric compressor in the cubby holes.

I'm putting together an order and am figuring out what to get.

Thanks,

Stephen

A standard relay, available from a lot of foreign car parts stores. Should cost around $30 new.

There was an air compressor for the spare tire delivered with each 944 (when new). Lots of POs kept them as souvenirs. :)

Forget the compressor. Your spare tire is dryrotted--well maybe :).

George always says carry the 89 cent jumper...

In a worst case scenario carry a can of fix-a-flat (foam sealer and air in a can ), that will inflate the spare in case of emergency. Yes, most of the spare tires have been sitting for 20+ years and not good to rely on; fix-a-flat seems to help in this area also.

Another problem with the collapsible spare tires is it is extremely difficult to get it deflated completely and back into the rear well...They are maybe a German since of humor.

I always keep one of those $20 autozone portable 12v compressors in the back. My original spare was fine and I was driving on it for 500 miles or so before getting the tire fixed (back when my work commute was 45 miles each way  ).

Got one from our sponsor for 28. Pretty reasonable. Bought a used one off of Fleabay for 6, that is my backup. Pulled a third off of a junkyard car, cost me a buck.

(yep, I now carry TWO) I may not be Bright, but I can be taught ;)

Carry a cheapo inflator AND a can of fix a flat, but the AAA card is my best bet as I really don't think the 20+ year old collapsible one use spare would actually work. I think it is just there for "perfect weight distribution" and for concourse points.
