Lightbulb 16" fuchs swap?

I am an owner of an early 85 944 which has 15" cookie cutters (195/65) and I have an opportunity to buy some cheap fuchs in nice condition these fuchs are 16" and the front pair are 205/55 and the back pair are 225/50. I am a complete novice at this so please help! Is the swap a good idea? Can it be done without out spacers and longer nuts? Also will this set the speedo out of sync? If so can you recalibrate it? I know these questions may seem verging on the idiotic to some of you but any help will be greatly appreciated.
Cheers
Jake

16" Fuchs from an '86 951 should be a direct bolt on with nothing else required for all the 944's up to '86. Tire sizes will be dependant on what width rims you have, sounds like they are 16x6 fronts and 16x7 rears with those size tires. 16x7 front and 16x8 rears can be shod with 225/50/16 fronts and 245/45/16 rear with no modifications. In my opinion, the fatter tires are the only way to go, if you have the fatter rims.

So would you reccomemd the same rims with fatter tyres? Or stick with the lower profiles? will it change the speed don't think there will be much difference with the overall height of tyre and rim so probably won't make much difference. thanks for the responses.

If those Fuchs are from a 911 (which it sounds like they are if you are picking them up for cheap) then you will need spacers in the front if you want them to fill out the fenders correctly. I would agree with Bob, they are probably 7" wide in the rear and 6" wide in the front. I didn't notice a difference with the speedo as the overall tire/wheel diameter was the same when compared with my old cookie cutters.
