Help

I have recently replaced the head gasket on my 1989 944 2.7l. The only thing that I have left to do is reinstall the intake however there is a 3 pong conector that belongs to the Speed Reference Mark Sensor that I can't for the life of me find where it plugs in at. Any help is much appreciated. Matt:

Cant fine the female connector? The sensors were connected when you were taking everything apart, right? The sensors female part of the sensors are about 4 inches untill they get wraped up in a light brown plastic insulation (on my car '84) going to the battery and wiring harness through the fire wall. Some other wire thatcome from the insulation are the injector wires, battery wires, AFM wires. If you trace them all back to where they split from the brown insulation, the connectore to the speed/ reference sonsors should be right there. Sorry, my comuter isnt letting my upload picture for you, but any questions please dont hesitate. The connectors should be right about the sensors, and the back of the manifold.

I believe you are referring to the TDC sensor, which is supposed to be left disconnected. It actually serves no purpose other than for factory diagnostic I do not have any pictures of this connector but it is a round barrel connector.. looks similar to the O2 sensor connector (But is 3 prong instead of 2). The entire connector / sensor can be removed if you want, the sensor is attached to the speed / reference sensor bracket.

Thanks

First thanks for the replies. The sensor is the TDC sensor and I left it unplugged and zipped stripped to the main wiring harness. It is black connector with a white wire covering on it and is just below the engine speed sensor in the sensor block. Since I couldn't find anywhere that it could have plug in I went ahead and reassembled everything else. I started the car and seems to be running fine no missing or hessatation however there is a wining sound that sounds almost like a supercharger. The car does not have one and I was wondering if that is normal? I bought the car broken and half apart and it is my first porsche so I am learing as I go. Also the only other thing is I thought the car being a porsche would be a bit more peppier. Is that normal as well? Thanks Matt

Also I replaced the water pump, all rollers, and both belts.

Supercharge esque sound is usually a miss adjustment with the balance shaft belt. Either the belt is too tight (very easy to do), the tension roller was rotated the wrong direction (should be rotated clockwise to put tension on the belt) or the idler pulley is too close to the belt (putting to much preload on).

Check the idler pulley first followed by belt tension. There are many schools of thought on interpreting the proper orientation of the idler pulley as the factory manual can be interpreted a few different ways. I adjust the pulley so it just makes contact with the teeth on the belt, but puts no preload at all on the belt.

The balance belt tension is also deceptively loose, You will be surprised how loose its really supposed to be.
