Key, DIY on keys, ignition key, door key, gas cap key
If your keys are getting a bit worn and now you have to wiggle and flip the key in the locks, its time to get a new key.
Pelican sells a Genuine Porsche blank for the early cars and a lighted key for the late cars. Pelican Parts - Automotive Parts and Accessories - Porsche & BMW If you need one in a hurry go to ACE Hardware. $2.49 The brand is "ilco" and key blank is x9. Some better equipped key shops carry the "ilco" black plastic topped key. This is the important part: If your key is very worn down... When you use your old worn out key for your car----give them the best you have- -have them cut each side separately. Cut one side----Flip the old key over---flip the new key over and cut. They will then buff the burrs. Normally they just put your old key in one slot, cut one side of the new key and flip the new key over and cut again. So if the key they hand you the first time does not work in the locks, try my method when they try again and cut the 2nd, 3rd, 4th .....key (I know). GL John |
Is there a problem with getting a later model lighted key for my early 944?

I do not know the answer.
ACE has a computer program that they use to look up the key blank. If the same blank is used for all years, then you should be able to. John |
