88 front suspension question

My sons 88 is in decent driver shape but need to do at the very least the front inserts. What is the preferred method to replace as a complete assembly or just replace the inserts while still in the car if that is even possible? I am use to 911 and 914 front suspension so assuming because of the springs you have to remove as an assembly?

The second part of this is what is the best bang for the buck for a broke college student? Should used even be an option?

Koni hacksaw conversion or strut replacement are your only options.

Ok so should I be looking at used or really just new assembly? Probably get driven a few thousand miles a year.
