HVAC Foam Gaskets - Replaceable?
As a followup to my last post regarding fine dust - I can see how lots of this has gotten sucked in through the blower and into the ductwork. I also see that lots of the foam that surrounds the various vents is pretty brittle and degraded - which will likely mean more dust infiltration in the future.
Are these various foam pieces still available as parts? And if not, is there a material I could use to fabricate some of my own foam gaskets? Removing all this dust is lots of work, and I'd like to try to alleviate the problem at its source if possible. Another question concerns the two screen panels which cover the blower intakes. Looks to me like the main function of these is to prevent critters from entering the blower works...but is there also some type of filter that was held in by these at some point? Seems like there ought to be. I'm tempted to try placing some kind of foam filter material inside these screens, but if this was not part of the original design then it might not be a great idea. |

SolReaver did a DIY on heater core replacement and showed how to redo some of the foam seals. His explanation may help.

You can buy all the weather stripping you need at any home improvement store. They use it in window units all the time to seal.
I have no idea what year your car is, and am not real familiar with the later cars, but it would be a bad idea if you have the squirrel cage in the center, it gets wet and will rot.
