Climate Control Unit - DIY Rehab Possible?
With my dash removed, I've been cleaning electrical contacts - including those on the rear of the climate control unit.
But I'm thinking that I'd like to open up the climate control unit - to check and clean the internal contacts (and perhaps resolder where necessary), and to lubricate the sliders also. Looks like there are some plastic tabs that I could carefully bend to get this unit apart - but am worried that there may be some springs or whatever that may boing away as I remove the cover. At any rate, if anyone who has taken one of these units apart could chime in with some hints, that would be great. Thanks! |

The climate control unit does come apart. I did mine in blue LED's to match my gauges.
Once out, the black back cover can be pryed off being careful of the clips that hold it together. To get it further apart you need to desolder the a/c button assembly, and the recirc/defog button assembly. At that point you still have no practical way to mess with the sliders. The only springs I found are within the button assemblies.
